The solar installation, located in Dos Hermanas (Seville), has more than 13,300 solar panels with a combined renewable energy capacity of 5.26 MW.

Amazon today unveiled in Dos Hermanas (Seville) our largest on-site solar energy installation in Europe. The fulfilment centre in southwest Spain has been fitted with more than 13,300 solar panels with an aggregate capacity of 5.26 MW. The renewable energy installation spans the facility’s roof and parking area, and is expected to produce over six million kilowatt hours per year, enough energy to power the equivalent of more than 1,500 Spanish homes annually.

Mariangela Marseglia, General Manager of Amazon.es, said: “At Amazon, we are putting our scale and our inventive culture towards our goal of reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. This new on-site solar installation in Dos Hermanas supports our position as the largest corporate buyer of renewable energy in Europe, and the world, and it also moves us closer to meeting our goal of powering our operations with 100% renewable energy by 2025, five years ahead of our original target.”

Amazon has 26 on-site solar installations in Spain, which directly power our respective sites. We are also investing in large off-site renewable energy projects, with 13 solar farms and three wind projects across the country that have a total combined capacity of more than 1.5 GW of renewable energy. Once fully operational, they will have the capacity to generate enough clean energy to power the equivalent of more than 850,000 Spanish homes annually. These 16 projects are located in Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Andalucia, Extremadura, Aragón, and Madrid.

Amazon has invested in over 370 renewable energy projects around the world. Once fully operational, Amazon’s global renewable energy portfolio will have the capacity to generate 50,000 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of clean energy, or the equivalent amount of electricity needed to power approximately 13 million European homes each year.

Amazon co-founded The Climate Pledge in 2019, committing to reach net-zero carbon by 2040 – 10 years ahead of the Paris Agreement. The Pledge now has more than 375 signatories, including Spanish companies such as Telefónica, Real Betis Balompié, Cabify, Mahou – San Miguel, and Glovo. The company is also investing $2 billion in the development of decarbonizing services and solutions through the Climate Pledge Fund.
