London [UK], 23 June 2021: American Express (NYSE: AXP), Official Payment Partner of The Championships, Wimbledon, today announced its plans for this year’s event, which returns to welcome back tennis fans later this month. The partnership – now in its third year – will bring a host of on and off-site activations to help fans get more out of their Championships experience with Amex. Opportunities include a new augmented reality game “Champion’s Rally”, exclusive Cardmember benefits for those attending this year’s Championships plus off-site viewing events at the now sold-out London Restaurant Festival, also part of the Amex Experiences programme.
Based on the successful on-site Fan Experience from 2019, Champion’s Rally – the virtual reality tennis game – has been given a new twist for 2021 and is available as an augmented reality experience to be played on your mobile. Two-time Wimbledon champion, Andy Murray returns to guide tennis fans with a virtual coaching and gameplay experience that replicates Wimbledon’s iconic Centre Court. This mobile-enabled game will allow fans to get in on the action whether they’re courtside or at home. The game can be accessed at: championsrally.com from 28 June 2021. (For more details see below)
Whilst on-site this year, American Express Cardmembers can enhance their experience with access to the likes of a dedicated Cardmember Lounge and in-ear radios featuring a live broadcast of Centre Court, No.1 Court and the Wimbledon Radio Channel.1 In addition, Cardmembers will be able to enjoy an exclusive 20% discount at The Official Wimbledon Online Shop throughout The Championships.2
And off-site, as part of London Restaurant Festival Summer Edition – of which American Express is presenting partner – American Express Cardmembers will be able to watch the Wimbledon Ladies’ Singles Finals at the sold-out pop-up pontoon during the ‘Tennis at the Marina’ event at St Katharine Docks.
“This is our third year partnering with Wimbledon as it continues to be a great example of how we’re backing customers and tennis fans around the globe with unique experiences,” said Lindsay UIrey, Vice President, Global Sports Experiences and Partnerships, American Express. “From exclusive access to our specially designed Cardmember Lounge to having a tutorial with tennis two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray in Champion’s Rally, this partnership really does allow us to show how you get more with Amex.”
Andy Murray added: “It’s great to be back working with American Express on Champion’s Rally. Now that the game is on mobile, I can help tennis fans get the most out of their Wimbledon experience whether courtside or on the sofa.”
To further support the partnership, American Express will be launching an exciting new above-the-line campaign, launching on 28 June 2021. This will include an out-of-home presence at key transport hubs for Wimbledon and along fans’ route to the event. The creative celebrates the fact that Wimbledon is ‘on’ this year and amplifies the extra benefits that Cardmembers can enjoy both off-site and on-site by virtue of being #WithAmex, which will help make their experience extra special.
