KONE Corporation, a global leader in the elevator and escalator industry, has been selected by Société du Grand Paris (SGP) to deliver and install 152 KONE escalators for the future Grand Paris Express Metro Line 16.
The new line will be 29 kilometers long and have 10 stations, and it will connect the Saint-Denis Pleyel station to the Noisy-Champs station in 26 minutes. Line 16 is expected to be used by more than 200,000 passengers daily.
To help enable smooth and safe people flow and access to the metro, KONE will equip eight stations with a total of 152 bespoke KONE TransitMaster™ escalators. The escalators feature enhanced fire resistance, glass fall-prevention barriers and improved traffic signalization. Equipped with built-in connectivity, they can also be upgraded by plugging in services to facilitate for example maintenance.
“We are honored that our previous project on the Grand Paris Express Metro Line 15 has led to continued collaboration for the new Line 16. This project is exceptional not only for its size but also for its tight schedule, with the depth of the metro stations adding to the challenge. We look forward to contributing to this significant project and helping Paris and its surroundings become more accessible to all,” said Pierre Liautaud, Executive Vice President for KONE South Europe, Middle East and Africa.
The installation work will begin in early 2022, and the project is due for completion in 2024.
KONE booked the order in the fourth quarter of 2020.
