Toyota Motor Europe outperforms market with all-time record sales of 912,671 vehicles during first 9 months

  • Toyota Motor Europe (TME) vehicle sales up +6% year-on-year across the first three quarters, an all-time high for the period (1)
  • TME’s total electrified sales mix has now reached 75% of all vehicles sold in Europe
  • Toyota remains 2nd best-selling passenger car brand in Europe with sales growth of +5% year-on-year
  • Toyota C-HR sales up +8% year-on-year boosted by the introduction of a plug-in hybrid model
  • Lexus post record sales of 63,697 vehicles an increase of +17%, year-on-year

Brussels – Toyota Motor Europe (2) (TME) sold 912,671 Toyota and Lexus vehicles in the first nine months of 2024, outperforming the market with an increase of +6% year-on-year. Both Toyota and Lexus posted all-time record sales across this period; Toyota brand maintained its position as 2nd best-selling passenger car brand with sales growth of +5% year-on-year, and Lexus maintained its position as one of Europe’s fastest growing premium brands with sales growth of +17%. Electrified vehicles now represent 75% of TME’s total European sales. TME’s mix of electrified vehicles increased with full-electric sales up +28%, plug-in hybrids up +37% and hybrids up +9%.

Brands and model performance

Toyota sold 848,974 vehicles between January-September 2024, an increase of +5% year-on-year. The brand’s top sellers included the Yaris range, Corolla range and the new Toyota C-HR. Toyota’s overall electrified sales mix is now at 74%, with volume  increasing +7% year-on-year. Sales of battery electric vehicles in the first nine months were up +19% year-on-year at 26,824 vehicles. Plug-in hybrid sales increased +93% year-on-year with the introduction of Toyota C-HR PHEV.

Lexus’ record sales of 63,697, +17% year-on-year outperformed the premium market in Europe, while sales of electrified models increased +22% year-on-year. Lexus has a 100% electrified sales mix in West Europe and 90% across the entire region. Key performers are the all-new luxury compact Lexus LBX available as hybrid and Lexus NX available in plug-in hybrid and hybrid variants.

  • Top sellers: Yaris Cross (155,527); Yaris (133,634); Corolla range (121,519); Toyota C-HR (97,698); Aygo X (74,873); RAV4 (76,994)
  • Total electrified sales: 626,049 (+7% year-on-year)
  • Top electrified: Yaris Cross Hybrid (150,535); Yaris Hybrid (119,273); Corolla Hybrid (67,754); Toyota C-HR Hybrid (97,689); RAV4 Hybrid/Plug-in Hybrid (74,099)
  • Toyota Professional  sales: 97,226 (-4.3% year-on-year)
  • Electrified mix: West Europe: 76%, East Europe*: 59% – TTL: 74%

Lexus highlights January- September 2024:

  • Total Lexus sales: 63,697 (+17% year-on-year)
  • Top sellers: NX (18,567); RX (10,257): UX (8,379)
  • Total electrified sales: 57,360 (+22% year-on-year)
  • Top electrified: NX Hybrid/Plug-in Hybrid (18,024); LBX Hybrid (16,216), UX Hybrid/BEV (8,132); RX Hybrid/Plug-in Hybrid (7,764)
  • Electrified mix: West Europe: 100%, East Europe*:38% – TTL: 90%
