Brussels – Toyota Motor Europe (2) (TME) sold 626,572 Toyota and Lexus vehicles in the first six months of 2024, an increase of +9% year-on-year. The Toyota brand maintained its position as 2nd best-selling passenger car brand with sales growth of +9% year-on-year, and Lexus maintained its position as one of Europe’s fastest growing premium brands with sales growth of +21%. Toyota Professional, TME’s light commercial vehicle brand, also increased sales by +10% year-on-year. TME’s year-on-year sales of electrified vehicles increased with full-electric sales up +34%, plug-in hybrids up +38% and hybrids up +11%. The total electrified sales mix has now reached 74% of all Toyota and Lexus vehicles sold in Europe.
We are pleased with a record first half-year sales performance, and we continue to outperform the market. We’ve experienced buoyant demand across our electrified vehicle models for hybrids, plug-in hybrids and battery electric vehicles. We’ve also injected newness with the introduction of the all-new Lexus LBX and new C-HR plug-in hybrid which have both been well received. This strong demand for our products is testament to our multi-path strategy with a line-up that caters to the diversity of our European customers’ needs.
Brands and model performance
Toyota sold 585,321 vehicles in H1 2024, an increase of +9% year-on-year. The brand’s top sellers included the Yaris range, Corolla range and the new Toyota C-HR. Toyota’s overall electrified sales mix was 73%, with volume increasing +9% year-on-year. Sales of battery electric vehicles in the first half were up +24%year-on-year at 19,038 vehicles.
Lexus continued its rapid growth of the past year with sales of 41,251 vehicles in the first six months up +21% year-on-year. The premium brand’s electrified sales mix is 90% in Europe, rising to 99% in West Europe. Lexus NX performed well with sales up +13%, the brand’s overall volume was boosted by the introduction of the all-new luxury compact, Lexus LBX.
Toyota Professional sales increased to 72,012 vehicles in Jan-June 2024, an increase of +10% year-on-year. Proace City small vans sales increased by +28% to 29,857 vehicles year-on-year.
