Amazon is enabling 12 new renewable energy projects in Spain, with a combined capacity of 596 MW. These energy agreements raise our renewable capacity in the country to more than 2.9 GW, totaling 79 wind and solar projects in Spain, including 49 large-scale off-site projects (nine wind, 40 solar) and 30 solar energy rooftop installations on our buildings.
The new projects will consist of four wind farms and eight solar farms, distributed across the country. With these projects, we further our commitment to Spain and renewable energy.
“The solar and wind projects we have enabled are helping to power our operations, while providing new sources of clean energy to the grid, and supporting economic growth in the communities where our employees and customers live and work,” said Mariangela Marseglia, Vice President and General Manager of Amazon in Spain, Italy and Portugal. “We are on a path to match all of our global electricity usage with 100% renewable energy by 2025, having already surpassed 90% in 2022.”
More than 500 solar and wind projects around the world
We’ve enabled more than 100 new solar and wind energy projects in 2023, becoming the world’s largest corporate purchaser of renewable energy for the fourth year in a row. Amazon now has more than 500 wind and solar projects globally, and once operational, they are expected to generate more than 77,000 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of clean energy each year.
These projects are bringing us closer to matching all of our global electricity usage with 100% renewable energy by 2025. They are already helping power our operations, including fulfilment centres, Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centres, corporate offices, and physical stores, which serve millions of customers globally.
Our renewable energy agreements are part of The Climate Pledge, our commitment to reach net-zero carbon by 2040 – ten years ahead of the Paris Agreement.
