  • The National Academy of Technologies of France assembles a selection of 360 scientists and industry leaders to confer about scientific issues, provide independent advice to the French government, and promote the pursuit of new technology
  • Members of the National Academy of Engineering in the U.S. have made significant contributions to engineering and provide independent advice to the U.S. government and various industries on engineering and technology projects

Paris, France – Vera Silva, Chief Strategy & Technology Officer of GE Vernova’s Electrification Systems business, has been recognized by two elite engineering academies, one in France and one in the U.S. Vera was among 16 top scientists and industry leaders newly elected as a member of the National Academy of Technologies of France (NATF) and among 21 international members elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) Class of 2024 in the U.S. Both academies have recognized Vera’s contributions to science and technology, in particular the integration of new technologies to modernize electrical grids and decarbonize electrical energy.

“We are thrilled to congratulate Vera on this distinguished recognition by both academies,” said Philippe Piron, CEO of GE Vernova’s Electrification Systems business. “She is an outstanding leader dedicated to developing the most advanced technologies for the future of global electrification. As the Chief Strategy & Technology Officer for GE Vernova’s Grid Solutions and Electrification Systems businesses, her membership is an invaluable asset to the academies.”

According to NATF, it convenes more than 350 of France’s top scientists and industry senior leaders to analyze the political, ethical and societal implications of new technology and offer expert insights to policymakers. Members of the Academy are nominated and elected by their scientific peers. Vera is the first GE Vernova executive to be elected to the NATF and will be formally inducted at a ceremony on March 11 in Paris.

Election to the NAE is considered to be among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer, with 2,310 U.S. members and 332 international members in total. Members are peer-elected and represent a select group of senior professionals in business, academia, and government who have distinguished themselves through technical accomplishments and leadership. According to the NAE, its members are influential in advising the development of federal laws and regulations, improving the effectiveness of government programs in the U.S., shaping the direction of research fields, and informing public knowledge and dialogue about issues of critical importance. Vera will be formally inducted during the NAE’s annual meeting on September 29 in Washington DC.

“I am deeply honored to become a member of the NATF and the NAE, and am grateful for this recognition by my peers,” Vera said. “I look forward to sharing my expertise on the economics and operations of electricity systems and technologies with both academies to accelerate the global energy transition.”

Vera has been a leader in business technology strategy for GE Vernova for nearly six years. Her work across the multiple GE Vernova businesses, including Grid Solutions, Power Conversion, and Solar and Storage Solutions, and her leadership within the industry have been instrumental to GE Vernova’s work to accelerate global electrification. She will bring to the academies her experience with industrial strategy around solutions and equipment for electrification and the electrical networks of the future, informed by a broad vision of the energy industry and global energy transition.
