FedEx Express has opened a new ground operations facility in Gdansk, Poland, as part of a multi-million dollar investment program in Central and Eastern Europe, which also includes new facilities in Riga Latvia, Cluj and Sibiu in Romania and Prague in Czech Republic.

Warsaw – FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, has opened a new ground operations facility in Gdansk, Poland, as part of a multi-million dollar investment program in Central and Eastern Europe, which also includes new facilities in Riga Latvia, Cluj and Sibiu in Romania and Prague in Czech Republic.

The strategic location of the Gdansk facility enables businesses in the region to easily connect with and expand into domestic markets in Poland, and international markets across Europe and around the world through easy access to both FedEx Express extensive road network and global air network.

The Gdansk facility employs 60 people, covers an area of over 9,000 m2 and consists of both offices and a warehouse equipped with high-end warehousing solutions dedicated to courier operations: an innovative sorting system capable of handling up to 4,500 packages per hour, parking stations for 159 courier vans loading docks and 10 gates for linehaul trucks. One side of the warehouse has been designed to handle standard shipments, while the other handles larger freight shipments.

“Our investment in Gdansk is a perfect example of how we are responding to the needs of our customers and the opportunities for growth in Eastern Europe. Not only we are opening a modern facility, but we are also adding a new flight point at the Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport, linking the region to the largest air cargo network in the world that FedEx offers,” said Mariusz Mik, Vice President Ground Operations Eastern Europe, FedEx Express. He added, “Our aim is to be the right partner for local enterprises on their path to growth.”
